Yolanda V. Barreda, 90, passed away on the morning of September 15th, 2021, in the comfort of her daughter’s home in San Antonio, Texas. She spent her final days in the care and embrace of her family and loved ones. She has ascended into heaven to join those who preceded her in passing: her beloved parents Ernesto and Carlota Vasquez; the love of her life and husband, Fructuoso G. Barreda; devoted son, Eduardo E. Barreda; and best friend and aunt, Hilda Schunior.
Born January 15th, 1931, and raised in Laredo, Texas, Yolanda graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University and the University of Texas at Austin. She taught 3rd grade in the Laredo Public School system for 31 years at Central and JC Martin Junior schools. As a beloved teacher to many, she enjoyed her decades-long devotion to education.
Beyond her career, Yolanda touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed by her family and those with whom she shared her loving, vibrant, and outgoing personality. Yolanda was a woman of faith and took great pride in having a strong opinion about life. A social butterfly who had many friends, she enjoyed telling stories about her family and staying close with those she had come to know over the years, whether through a daily phone call or weekly visits.
She also had a passion for collecting items that made her happy or held sentimental value, and was eager to pass on her heirlooms to her loved ones. Yolanda was always willing to give to those in need and support causes that were meaningful to her.
God blessed those who loved her with 90 beautiful years. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted and loving daughter, Yolanda B. Heinze and son-in-law, Rolando; grandchildren, Roland Heinze and his wife Jennifer, Alan Heinze, Stefan Heinze, and Mayela and Linda Barreda; daughter-in-law, Linda Barreda; as well as many other extended family members.
