"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him" -34:8 (NIV)
William J. "Billy" Dickinson passed away in Laredo, Texas at the age of 74.
He is survived by his beloved spouse of 52 years of marriage Gloria Flores, whom together shared many wonderful years of blessings. Children William J. Jr. (Mary), Karen Hunter (Dr. Chris), Jennifer Whitfill (Patrick) & Alexa Kuehn (Kris); seven grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Charles B. (Bertha) Dickinson; brother Rev. Charles B. Dickinson Jr., (Mary Louise).
Dickinson was a member of an old-time ranching and professional family whose roots stretched back well into 19th century Laredo and extended deep into Mexico. Following his father, Dickinson was the head of a well-known Laredo accounting firm that helped to organize the operations of many Laredo businesses. He attended St. Mary's University in San Antonio and graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. As Dickinson's skills in analyzing business operations grew, he increasingly directed them to philanthropy. Although he was careful to avoid public recognition for what he did, Dickinson was active in organizing and maintaining a wide breadth of charitable pursuits stretching from southern Mexico to northern Texas and to other parts of the world. He devoted much of his considerable energy to several Laredo charities. Among Billy Dickinson's friends and family, a common remark about him was that he was wise and people sought out his advice.
Billy was the epitome of a gentleman of days gone by. He was humble, kind hearted, honest, loyal, trustworthy and generous. He was fierce in his devotion to the family he adored as well as his friends and business associates.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on the ranch, the beach, at car shows or just cruising around.
Billy was loved by his family and friends and will be eternally remembered, "For the memory of the Righteous is blessed." (Proverbs 10:7)
We thank his group of physicians, nurses and staff at LMC who cared for him during this time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to one of Billy's charities; Church of the Crossroads-Building Fund, South Texas Outreach Foundation, Laredo Animal Shelter & South Texas Food Bank.
