TERESA "TERE" GONZALEZ BENAVIDES September 28, 1927 - January 13, 2014 Teresa Gonzalez Benavides entered peacefully into eternal rest Monday, January 13, 2014. She was born in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico, on September 28, 1927 to her parents Manuel Maria and Teresa Benavides de Gonzalez. Tere, as she was known to all, lived in Piedras Negras, Coahuila and Cd. Mante, Tamaulipas, Mexico before moving to Laredo in 1966 with her sister and brother-in-law Lupe & Willis Gentry Jr. to start Gentry's Laredo Garden Center. Tere contributed much to the success of Gentry's Garden center and was the manager of Gentry's Del Norte Store on IH 35 and Mann Road for over 25 years until she retired. Tere also made time to enjoy and serve as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for many years. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family throughout the United States and Mexico as well as Hawaii, Greece, Italy and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed spending time with all of her nieces, nephews and their families. We will all miss her with that firecracker personality that made her the Tia Tere with a sparkle. Tere was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Joaquin, Luis, Manuel, Jorge, Antonio and Edilberto Gonzalez and brother-in-law, Willis E. Gentry Jr. She is survived by her sister Guadalupe Gonzalez de Gentry, her sisters-in-law Consuelo and Irene Gonzalez, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Church; 2219 Galveston St., Laredo, Texas 78043.
