Sylvia Mares, 60, entered into eternal rest Monday, June 9, 2014. She was born in Finlay, Ohio and grew up there until 1971, when she moved to Laredo with her family. She attended her senior year at Nixon High School where she graduated in 1972. Her college years were spent at Texas A&M International University (Laredo State University) where she received a Bachelor's in Business Accounting in 1994. Sylvia was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. In this time of sorrow and grief, we find comfort in our faith that she is now at peace in the company of Heaven's angels and Saints. Sylvia worked for the Dioceses of Laredo for several years, serving at various places such as the Chancery, St. Augustine High School, Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In her lifetime of service, she also worked for the Silva Method. Her latest place of employment and her final home was at KGNS-TV. Sylvia is preceded in death by her father: Pedro Mares, sister: Rosa Dolores Mares, and brother: Tony Mares. She is survived by her son: Peter James Mares; mother: Juanita S. Mares; brother: Daniel O. (Delia) Mares; sisters: Melinda Mares, Diana Campos; sister-in-law: Linda Mares; nephews and nieces: Jesse Mares and spouse, Robert Mares and spouse, Rebecca Wentzel and spouse, C'lina Mares and spouse, Pearl Torres and spouse, Richard Campos and spouse, William Campos, Jr.; great nieces: Lola Mares, and Ruby Wentzel. She is also survived by other loving relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring @ Cortez from 5 to 9 in the evening. A Rosary will be held at 7 in the evening. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
