Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that one on the last day. - John 6:56 Sister Mary Carmel Rangel, OSU, was called by God into eternal life on Dec. 3, 2014. She was director of the Diocese of Laredo's Catholic Social Services Senior Center in West Laredo. Sister Carmel was born June 2, 1943, in Waring, Texas. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in January 1963 and professed her vows in January 1965. After many years of service ministering to the elderly in Alton, Ill., New Orleans and San Antonio, she joined the Ursuline community in Laredo in 2008 and became director in 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Nicolas Rangel Sr, brothers and sisters Dominga, Loucio, Virginia, Refugio Jr., Hortencia, Anselmo, and Sylvia Almanza. She is survived by her sister, Gracie Rangel, brother, Nicomedes Rangel and sister-in-law Beatrice as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation and a prayer service led by the Ursuline Sisters will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1602 Garcia St. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at noon. The Most Rev. James A. Tamayo, D.D., Bishop of Laredo, will be the principal celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Catholic Social Services Senior Center, 1919 Cedar Ave. Laredo TX 78040 or to the Ursuline Sisters, 353 South Sappington Rd.
