Sergio Peña went to be with our Lord Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Houston Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loving family members. He was born June 1, 1959 in Laredo, Texas to Antonio and Zulema Peña. Sergio was dedicated to his family and would help anyone that was in need. His kind heart and gentle spirit will truly be missed.
Sergio graduated from Nixon High School. He was gifted at a very young age and had a particular interest for automobiles. He was accepted and was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Texas State Technical School in Waco, Texas. He earned an Automotive Mechanic Certificate, and upon his return he worked at Paul Young Auto Mall Chevrolet for over fifteen years. He then worked with the U.S. Border Patrol as a Mechanic/Mechanic Leader. Throughout his career he excelled and received numerous accolades such as an Outstanding Achievement Award with the Department of Justice. He had a great work ethic to his employers, his dedication and passion to his career in the automotive industry was evident by his many accomplishments.
Sergio loved and cared for his family. He worked at very young age to help his father and mother. He loved his nieces and nephews always making sure that all of their needs were met. Sergio enjoyed playing chess, watching sports, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved friends, in great company and having a good time. He had a great heart and will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Zulema Peña and brother Antonio Peña, Jr. Those left behind to keep his memory alive are his sisters Geraldine (Juan) Botello, Angelica (Rafael) Hinojosa, and Elizabeth (Jose) Gonzalez; nieces and nephews Jessica (Pedro) Arizpe, Rafael Daniel Hinojosa, Andres Hinojosa, Erika Gonzalez, Oscar Garay, Jose Antonio Gonzalez, and Sebastian Gonzalez.
Sergio’s family would like to give special thanks to the skilled and compassionate staff at: the Houston Methodist Hospital, the Laredo Medical Center, Dr. Selena Stuart, and Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa. They would also like to give their utmost gratitude to a special person in his life, Emma Huerta for her companionship and support.
The family will be receiving condolences on Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning, June 7, 2017 departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Mother Cabrini Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
