Sara Hanlon

November 17, 1928 — October 25, 2018

Mrs. Sara (Zermeño/Guajardo) Hanlon entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 25th of October 2018.

Mrs. Sara Z. Hanlon began her working career at Sear’s in Mexico, D.F. where she made positive impacts with regards to contracts and pay raises for all employees. Sara worked hard her entire life and successfully helped her brother, Lic. Eugenio Zermeño obtain his education. She filed paperwork with US Customs and Border Protection to enter our country legally and ultimately obtained citizenship.

In Laredo, she worked at Hachar’s, Joe Brand, Richter’s and Polly Adam’s where she was a purchaser for fashion merchandise. She was also a member of the French Club.

She dedicated herself to her work at Laredo Christian Academy as secretary and eventually, School Principal. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Doctor’s Hospital. Everything she did was with love and dedication. Above all, Sara Z. Hanlon was the bestest wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew and loved her.

My mother was my confidant, guide, and prayer warrior. (Sara Helen Hetland) My family already feels the empty spot she has left in our hearts.

Sara Hanlon was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Eugenio J. and Sara Zermeño (Guadalajara, Jal., MX); her sister, Laura Avila Zermeño (Guadalajara, Jal., MX); her grandchildren, Bernard James Hetland and Siobhan Cathlyn Hetland, both from Austin, TX; her brother-in-law, James Hanlon (Easton, PA); her sister-in-law, Nanette Jones (Bethlehem, PA); and her daughter-in-law, Michell Hanlon (Temple, TX).

Her survivors are her husband, Bernard James Hanlon (Easton, PA); her son, James Eugene Hanlon (Temple, TX); her daughter, Sara Helen Hetland (Austin, TX), her brother, Lic. Eugenio Zermeño (Monterrey, NL, MX); and her grandchildren: Ryan Hanlon and Reagan Hanlon both of Temple, TX, Shannon Hetland (San Marcos, TX), and Kaitlyn Hetland (Austin, TX), Joel Hetland of Westbend, WI; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
