Ruby was born in Laredo, Texas on January 23, 1929 to Victor and Felipa Gunnoe. She was raised in Laredo and at the age of 14 began her hardworking long life of service, not only to her Lord, but her family as well, and her community. Her first job was at the Azteca Theater as a ticket taker. A proud Tiger and Saxophone player, class of 1948, she was the one to cheer on her Mighty Tiger Band, “La Banda del Animo” during the many WBCA Parade’s that she attended. Her professional career and long-term profession that she also devoted her life for over 38 years, having retired at the age of 82 was that at the Laredo Independent School District where under the supervision and guidance of then superintendent Vidal M. Trevino and Asst. Superintendent, Hector H. Garcia. The Athletic Department saw this passionate and hardworking woman of faith give of her all for her coworkers and the countless numbers of children that benefited from her hard work as bookkeeper. Part of her active life also saw her volunteer for the Border Olympics. She was a woman of steadfast faith who never gave up on life. On the evening of July 23rd, God saw her and said, “well done thy good and faithful servant…” and took her soul up to rejoice in the heavenly banquet, where there is no more suffering, illness, but only joy.
