Ruben Perez

Ruben "Chacho" Lauro Perez January 25, 1932 - March 24, 2014 Beloved husband of 55 years and devoted father. Ruben was born in Laredo, TX to Diodoro and Juanita Perez. As a youth, he was a proud contributor to his family income along with his seven brothers and sisters. He shined shoes, sold fruits and vegetables, and did odd jobs. He loved to tell the stories of his youth to anyone who would listen especially if it included a cup of coffee and pan dulce. He graduated from Martin High school in 1950 where he played the trumpet for the band. He entered the Navy that same year and was honorably discharged in April of 1954. As most sailors, he fell in love with the ship in which he served; The USS Sproston. He kept pictures of his beloved ship until his last day on earth. His career began and ended with one company; The Texas Mexican Railway Company. He began as a janitor somewhere around 1954 and retired with the titles of Manager of Sales and General Agent in 1995. Afterwards he became a board member for the Webb County Appraisal District. Ruben carried with him a sense of humor that became his signature trade mark. You would often see him at Whataburger or McDonalds with his fellow retirees swapping stories or debating global politics over coffee. It was common practice for him to call one of his sons to confirm facts only to further a debate later with his coffee group. He shall be loved and missed for many years to come. He is survived by his wife, Irma Idalisa Perez, and his two sons, Ruben "Jerry" G. Perez and Arturo "Eddie" E. Perez. He is preceded in death by his youngest son Agustin "Larry" L. Perez. Friday the 28th of March 2014 Service Schedule: Prelude Music/Visitation 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Rosary/Prayer Service: 6:30 p.m. Eulogy: 7 p.m. Visitation: 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. All services will conclude in the chapel. A Private Inurnment will be held at a later date.
