Rosa Imelda De la Garza, 83, was called by the Lord on Sunday October 25, 2015. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren. She was born December 1, 1931 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents Juan Manuel & Evangelina Ramirez and her husband of 61 years Jorge O. De la Garza Sr. She is survived by their 6 children: Diana, Rosa, Laura, Jorge Jr., Marta, and Blanca. Rosa was a member of the Christ of King Church. She dedicated her faith to the Catholic Church. She served in the Eucharistic Ministries and was Dama Presidenta for two periods. She was part of the Blue Army Prayer Group for 25 years and would pray her rosary devoted to our Lady of Grace every Monday. She showed love and compassion to others and was a devoted Christian and mother. She instilled independence and wisdom in all the children with the will to guide others through her teachings. She met her beloved husband at Saint Augustine High School and were high school sweethearts. The legacy she leaves behind is the United bond that she and her husband had that was also created in their family to live for more generations to come. She lived for her family and her friends who are both revolved around her, her husband, and family. She taught her children important principles such as caring and respecting themselves and others. She also taught them how to cook! Her beautiful smile drove her strong character. She was a strong willed woman who was intelligent, witty and full of laughter to share and forever remember. She was the compass and the guiding light of her family! Mrs. de la Garza was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Webb County Commissioner Jorge O. De La Garza Sr.; her parents, Juan Manuel and Evangelina Ramirez; siblings, Dr. Juan Manuel Ramirez, Evangelina (Reme) Ceballos, Connie Ramirez, Oscar Ramirez, Ana Laura Cervantes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sara Brunner, Bertha Garcia, Manuel de la Garza, Mario de la Garza, Carlos de la Garza, Alfonso "Poncho" de la Garza, and Luis de la Garza. Mrs. de la Garza is survived by her children, Diana (Victor San Miguel Jr.) Gutierrez, Rosa Gutierrez, Laura (Dr. Esteban) Alejo, Jorge (Sandy Rodriguez) de la Garza Jr., Marta (Adn) Campos, Blanca McDonald; sister, Lupita Ramirez Cardenas; sisters-in-law, Gloria H. de la Garza, Ninfa de la Garza, Cuquis Ramirez, Mague Ramirez; grandchildren, Beto (Michele) Gutierrez, Diana (Mel) Palacios, Cecilia Gutierrez, Ruben A.(Ashley) Gutierrez Jr., Alejandro (Isa) Gutierrez Sr., Gabriel (Sandra) Alejo, Juan Carlos Alejo, Jorge Arturo (Nora) Alejo, Paco Alejo, Magali (Eddie) Castaeda, Jorge (Alyssa) de la Garza III, Cristina (Hector) Ballesteros, Monica (Robert Cisneros) Perales, Michelle (Brian) Stillings, Amos (Jen) McDonald; 20 great grandchildren; as well as by numerous other loved relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel; 1410 Jacaman Rd. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by a close friend of the family, Patsy Riddle. Funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from the funeral home to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will then follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Beto J. Gutierrez, Ruben A. Gutierrez Jr., Gabriel Alejo, Arturo Alejo, Juan Carlos Alejo, Hector A. Ballesteros Jr., Alejandro I. Gutierrez Sr., and Paco Alejo. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. Esteban Alejo, M.D., Victor San Miguel Jr., Adan Campos, Mel Palacios, Hector Ballesteros Sr., Sandy Rodriguez, Cesar Cardenas, Roberto Cisneros, Michele Gutierrez, Eddie Castaeda and John C. Justice.
