Roel Gonzalez

Roel Genaro Gonzalez, 58, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

In his early years, Roel had a penchant to work in law enforcement to help serve and protect his beloved community. In pursuit of his calling, he worked with the Webb County Sheriff’s Department and later went on to become an Agent for the US Department of Homeland Security; where he ultimately retired in 2014. He was currently an operative with the Texas Animal Health Commission and because of his love for his community and livestock, he volunteered his time and efforts as an active member of L.I.F.E.; where he served for 20 devoted years, not only in his role as 4-H Leader, but as past President of the Board. Roel treasured and immensely respected his community and always encouraged others to volunteer and give back. He was a one-of-a-kind person who never judged, and was always the first to lend a helping hand when anyone was in need. He led by example and was loved by so many, his uplifting character and acts of service throughout the years came back to him tenfold to help him and serve as armor in his battle against cancer. He was a true warrior who fought courageously and, in the end by the grace of God, gained his wings.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carlos Gonzalez and Rosario Mendiola.

Left to cherish his memory is his high school sweetheart and wife, Violeta Gonzalez; his adored daughters, Sherry and Samantha Gonzalez; loved son-in-law, Mario Galvan; and his pride and joy grandson, Roan Alexander Galvan. He is further survived by his brother, Carlos Gonzalez Jr.; sister-in-law Lourdes Gonzalez, and brother, Rene Gonzalez; as well as by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Prayer Service will commence at 7 p.m.

Interment will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 3 p.m.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to: Dr Mahani and all the Nurses & Staff at LMC, along with all the Doctors, Nurses, & Staff at MD Anderson for all of their excellent care during Roel’s time of need.
