Roberto Rodolfo Ramrez, 81, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 06, 2011 surrounded by his family and friends.

Roberto attended St Joseph's Academy, Martin High School, and graduated from the Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Laredo Community College before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and actively served in Korea for 18 months. He also served as Base Supply Officer and attended Base Supply School in Denver, Colorado. For his courageous service he received numerous awards including: the Korean Conflict Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Good Management Ribbon, the Bravery Award Ribbon, Aid-in-Battle-Field Ribbon, the Americanism Award Ribbon and the prestigious Presidential Citation. He was honorably discharged from active duty after serving his country in 1954, the same year he entered into the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1958.
From 1937 to 1968 he was involved in the family business and served as Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer of Arturo Ramrez & Sons Grocery Store. His duties as General Manager included the purchase and distribution of produce, staples, frozen foods, dairy and meat products as well as supervising approximately 90 employees. In his work, he met and became personally acquainted with many of his customers.-
In 1978 he held the position of Radio Dispatcher and was also 49th Dist. Court Bailiff from 1979 to 1982. Mr. Ramirez was an active member of various community organizations including: Lulac Council No. 12, where he served as President in 1975 as well as Director and Trustee, Lulac District 14, Commander in the G.I. Forum Laredo Chapter, Elks Lodge No. 1018, American Legion Post 59, V.F.W. & D.A.V., Optimist Club, Evening Lions Club and served as Director of the Laredo Mexican American Chamber of Commerce.
Roberto had a profound interest in his favorite hobbies, hunting, and fishing and enjoyed spending time with his family in his ranch in Zapata County. He was well known and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Sara Ramrez; brother, Heberto L. Ramrez; beloved son, Eduardo Javier Ramrez; father-in-law Enrique E. Gonzalez; mother-in-law Benigna Garza Gonzalez, and brother-in-law, Enrique Anastacio Gonzalez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Imelda Gonzalez Ramrez; sons, Roberto Rodolfo (Lilia Y.) Ramrez, Jr. and Jose Luis (Sonia) Ramrez; grandchildren, Jose Luis, Jr., Alejandro D., Eduardo Javier, Jr., Alyssa Y., Lizzette, Sheana Lee and Robert Ramrez; and siblings, Arturo (Bertha) Ramrez, Blanca (Ralph) Garca and Graciela (Harold) Platt. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosario Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Arturo (Leticia) Gonzalez; and daughter-in-law, Martha Ramirez, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to his long time personal physician Dr. Carlos Garza, who caringly attended him through his last ten most difficult years of his life.-Roberto considered him and his loving wife (Gracie) as part of the family.-Also, special thanks to Dr. Garza's office staff, Christina Gaona and Bertha Fernandez, as well as to Dr. Carlos Espinoza, Dr. Miguel Najera, and the staff at U.S. Renal Care.
