Sgt. Roberto M. Castillo
December 8, 1978 – December 21, 2024
A December baby, Roberto Manuel Castillo (Robert) was known as his family's "miracle baby" because he was conceived after years of praying for another child. Our miracle baby was born on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception strengthening the family's devotion to the Blessed Mother who saw him through his 46th birthday before carrying him to the warm embrace of her Son less than two weeks later. Robert was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, and he entered the Kingdom of Heaven on December 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Robert loved Christmas, making his passing at this time of year difficult. While he criticized those who would bypass Thanksgiving in favor of getting their Christmas decorations up, and you wouldn't want to be around him to hear about the evils of mixing warm white and daylight Christmas lights, once Thanksgiving passed, he was all in. He would decorate his family's home, inside and out, and setup multiple trees. He started traditions with his son that included annual pilgrimages to the theater to watch Elf, Christmas Vacation, and, as a sergeant with the Webb County Sheriff's Office, the well-known Christmas classic of law enforcement, Die Hard. He would also entertain family and friends by dressing up as Buddy the Elf.
Robert was preceded in death by his younger brother, Marco Gabriel Castillo, and grandparents, Celia and Juventino Castillo and Emma and Rodolfo Garcia.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 15 years, Doreen Hale; son, Roberto Oscar Hale; parents, Lilia and Juan J. Castillo, Sr.; siblings, Juan J. Castillo, Jr. and Melissa M. (Matthew) Pici; honorary brother, Raul Guerra; sister-in-law, Joyce Castillo; parents-in-law, Dora and Oscar J. Hale, Sr.; sister-in-law, Melissa Hale (Felix Velasquez); and brother-in-law, Oscar J. (Kristy) Hale, Jr. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
