Reynaldo Herrera, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully September 4, 2010 surrounded by his family.-He was born on June 4, 1924.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Angela (Martinez) Herrera, who entered into eternal rest on May 19, 1995.-He was also preceded in death by his brothers Ricardo and Oscar.
Reynaldo Herrera, Sr. is survived by his seven children; Maria Esther Herrera, Sara (Candelario") DeLeon, Reynaldo (Beverly) Herrera, Jr., Jesus Fernando (Irma) Herrera, Juan Antonio (Laura) Herrera, Sr., Elsa Laura (Ramiro) Alarcon, and Anna Lizette (Faustino) Auces.-He is also survived by his 16 grandchidren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Reynaldo Herrera joined the Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. He received an Honorary Commendation from President Harry S. Truman for his service in the United States Army.-Reynaldo worked for 35 years for the City of Laredo Water Works Plant.-He never missed a day of work and was a dedicated employee.
To his children, Reynaldo will always be remembered as a dedicated father who taught his children to work hard at everything they do.-Today, all of Reynaldo's children have grown up to have very strong work ethics.-Reynaldo loved to go hunting during the holidays so that Angela, his beloved wife, could make her delicious tamales for Christmas.-His hunting companions said he always got his deer on the first shot, never wasting any bullets.-Reynaldo was strong-willed and strict, but proved his love by always providing what they needed.
The family members are at peace knowing their father is with their mother.-He was never the same without her and missed her everyday.-They are now walking hand in hand, in the presence of the Lord, watching over their children and grandchildren.-"We love you Apa, rest in peace.""-He will be greatly missed everyday and loved by his family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Road from 5 to 9 in the evening.-A Vigil will be held at 7 in the evening.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m.-Cortege will depart at 8:00 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels.
Interment will follow at Laredo City Cemetery.
