Rebecca A. Castañeda

February 17, 1959 – January 9, 2019

Our little angel is now in Heaven. Our most precious sister, who had Down syndrome, has joined our beloved Father and Mother and is now resting peacefully alongside them. Rebecca A. Castaneda died on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at San Juan Nursing Home in San Juan, Texas at the age of 59. Becky was always and will continue to be the Heart of our family. God created her with a special love and that love was shown through her fun, joyful, and simple innocence. She gifted us with many happy and lively moments. She was a special child, a special gift to us, and she will be forever dearly missed.

Rebecca was quite a character. She loved to dance, listen to music, and be playfully mischievous. She was quite the social butterfly, engaging all who met her with a playful fondness. Family, friends, caretakers, and all who met her always had a fun story to share about her. When her wonderful nieces and nephews share some of these stories, it brings a smile not only to them, but to all who hear their versions of how their Tia Becky brought joy to them. Rebecca’s loving positive impact on everyone in her life is something that will live on forever in everyone’s precious memories about her.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents: Guillermo F. and Angela M. Castaneda; niece: Christina Bazaldua.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her brothers and sisters: Sylvia Bazaldua of San Antonio, TX; Guillermo F. (Adela) Castaneda of McAllen, TX; Diana C. (Joe T.) Padilla of McAllen, TX; Ricardo (Graciela) Castaneda of San Antonio, TX; Patricia (John D.) English of Laguna Vista, TX; Ray (Cris) Castaneda of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Hilda (Joe) Luna of McAllen, TX; Gerardo (Marisela) Castaneda of Laredo, TX; 12 nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday morning, January 13, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez. A chapel service will take place at 11:00 a.m. All services conclude after the religious ceremony.

Entombment will take place at a later date in the Mausoleum of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

A special gratitude to the San Juan Nursing Home staff for the last 3 years of care and compassion.
