Mrs. Raquel M. Gage, 72, beloved and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, educator, and friend was called into the eternal kingdom of heaven on Saturday, August 25, 2012, surrounded-by her immediate family.-She was a 1958 graduate of Martin High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas.-She was dedicated teacher at L.I.S.D. (Leon Daiches Elementary) for 35 years where she instilled the importance of an education in her students.-Mrs. Gage was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.-Always a devout Catholic, Raquel instilled her faith to her family and was an active and devoted parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society.
Truly a self giving person, who placed other's needs before her very own and who throughout the years, gave to many charitable organizations so that many other people could be blessed.-After her retirement, Raquel spent countless hours caring for her precious garden of her beautiful home as well as her most important pastime, caring and spending time for and with her adored grandchildren.
Mrs. Gage now joins her parents:-Silverio and Antonia B. Martinez as well as her brother Javier B. (Oralia) Martinez who precede her in death.
Left behind to cherish the countless joyful memories are her spouse of 47 years of marriage, Mr. Joseph Andrew Gage, Sr.; daughters:-Elaine Evelyn (Ruben) Gage-Gonzalez and Yvette Maria (Jorge) Gage-Canales and son Joseph Andrew (Carmen) Gage, Jr.; grandchildren:-Selika Klaryssa de los Santos, Ruben Andrew Gonzalez, Jr., Christopher Joseph Canales, Silke Alexandra Gage and Joseph Andrew Gage, III.-She is further survived by her brothers:-Silverio A. (Eufemia) Martinez, Hector R. Martinez and her sister, Rosenda M. (Joe) Mendiola.
As our beloved mother's day to day living always had her placing other's needs before hers, we the Gage family would like to thank Laredo Medical Center, Air Evac Lifeteam, Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Angel Care Ambulance, Altus Hospice in Laredo for having so thoughtfully, respectfully and diligently given of their talents to care for our mother during the last couple of days.-
We would also like to thank Mr. Scotch McDonald and the amazing team of nurses and staff at Laredo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness, compassion and outstanding patient care.
Lastly, we would like to thank the team of funeral directors and staff at Joe Jackson Funeral Chapels, for their careful, considerate, caring and thoughtful guidance provided during this difficult time.
