February 7, 1935-August 25, 2023
Raquel M. Cardona, 88, entered into eternal rest, Friday, August 25th, 2023. She was born on February 7th, 1935 in Laredo, Texas.
Mrs. Cardona is preceded in death by her first husband of 39 years, Juan Francisco (Frisco) Aguilar, her second husband, Domingo Cardona, her parents, Crescencio and Carmen Morales, sisters Josefina Morales and Beatriz McCain, brother Fernando Morales, and grandson Ricardo Javier (RJ) Rodriguez.
She is survived by her three children Frank (Cindy) Aguilar, Randy (Clara) Aguilar and Linda Aguilar. Grandchildren, Jennifer Aguilar, Jeannette Aguilar, Frank Aguilar, Jr., Rachel Aguilar, Denise Aguilar, Melissa (Matt) Maldonado, Christina Aguilar, Jorge (Lindy) Rodriguez, Jr., Stephanie (Alex Sayavedra) Rodriguez, Jacqueline Bisbee. Great grandchildren Luke, Emily, Gwen, Audry, Owen, Jayline, Ronan and Jensen. Step grandchild David (Becky) Cabello, several in laws, nieces, nephews, her Cardona stepchildren and their children.
A voracious reader, Mrs. Cardona was known for her extensive collection of novels. A 1952 graduate of Martin High School, she volunteered there with the Library Service Club where she acquired her love of reading. She worked as a book keeper, then as an office manager for The South Texas Citizen for a number of years, and eventually as the Director of the City Cemetery. After retiring, she became an avid member of the bingo community and could be found at various bingo establishments wherever she would visit. She also loved to play card games being part of a local Bunco group for many years. She would be ready to play cards at the drop of a hat.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez, where visitation and a vigil will be held. A prayer and rosary service will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral procession will depart on Friday morning, September 1, 2023, from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Frank Aguilar, Jr., Jennifer Aguilar, Jorge Rodriguez, Jr., Owen Rodriguez, Stephanie Rodriguez, Alex Sayavedra.
Honorary pallbearers are: Frank Aguilar, Randy Aguilar, Randall Olson, Kandy Walker, and Hugo A. Gutierrez, Jr.
