Laredo, Texas

Emblem

Ramon Francis Abdallah, 90, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, May 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elena Abdallah; his brother, Mitchell Abdallah.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Abdallah; their 7 children, Russell (Bonnie) Abdallah, Rachelle Abdallah, Ryan (Geri) Abdallah, Randy (Annette) Abdallah, Robert Abdallah, Tina (Jarod) Abdallah- Boehm, and Rebecca Abdallah (Justin Culberson); brother, Norman (Brenda) Abdallah, sister-in-law, Betty Abdallah; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ray was born in Kingston, New York. He and his family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was a young boy where he attended and graduated from an all-boys Catholic school. After graduation, he attended Loyola University and played baseball for a short time. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1962. While in the Army, he also played baseball and was a left-handed pitcher for the Semi-Pro Army League. On June 2, 1962 he married the love of his life, Patricia Wilcox. Ray and Pat moved to Laredo in 1970 when he came to work for the company Transitron as an electrical engineer. Soon after moving to Laredo, amongst many other entrepreneurial endeavors, he began a small vending machine business out of the garage of his home, Astro Vending of Laredo. The business grew and became well known and established in the Laredo community. Ray was a devoted and active member of St. Patrick Church, the Men’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He regularly volunteered where he could, and always went above and beyond to lend a hand and help others in need.

Ray had a variety of hobbies and interests.  He loved sports, especially baseball and football. He loved fishing and enjoyed taking his boat out anytime he could and inviting friends and family to join him. He really enjoyed fishing off the coast. He loved having cookouts and inviting family and friends over for meals. The kitchen at the Abdallah household was always open for everyone; friends, neighbors, his kids, the kids' friends, neighborhood kids, and he loved sharing stories, and advice about life, with all.  He was hard-working, tenacious, and loyal. A man of his word. He regularly volunteered to cook large amounts of spaghetti and sauce for retreats and other events at the church, as well as BBQ chicken and steaks for plate sales and fundraisers.  He enjoyed building, designing, and modifying things to make them “better.” You could always find him tinkering with something (mostly his boat), and inventing things. PVC, magnets, and flashlights were his favorite things to use! He could fix or modify anything with PVC! He was never idle and always had several projects going on to keep him busy. He was known as a “Mr. Fix It” and he regularly helped neighbors, family, and friends fix appliances, cars, A/C’s, machine’s, etc when anyone asked for help. A skill he passed on to his children.  He truly lived in the image of “Love thy neighbor.”

Ray was a man who dedicated his life to the service of others, and he believed in the power of community. He was a man of extraordinary generosity, of unwavering dedication to his family, his Catholic faith, and of boundless compassion. His life was a testament to his values, his actions, a reflection of his heart, his legacy, and a tribute to his spirit.
