Ramiro V. Martinez, 75, local community leader, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 28, 2014. Mr. Martinez is preceded in death by his wife Maria Herlinda Martinez, his parents Francisco and Josefa V. Martinez, his in-laws Refugio and Marina Ramirez, Herminia Ramirez, Ramon Ramirez, Blas and Gilberta Ramirez, and brother-in-law Blas Ramirez. Mr. Martinez is survived by his daughters Sandy (Juan) Rubio, their children Alejandra, Rebecca, Miabella; and, Rosa Isela (Mario III) Santos, their children Mario IV, Rosemary, Linda and Judith. His siblings Elva (Albar +) Elizondo, Elma (Fernando) Gutierrez, Francisco (Dot +) Martinez Jr. and Felipe (Leticia) Martinez, numerous nieces and nephews, and the Martinez, Rodriguez, Vichareli and Ramirez families. Mr. Martinez graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1956. He received a Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Texas A&I University, Kingsville. He taught at Lamar Middle School, was a Counselor for the TRC, Budget Director for LISD, Superintendent of UISD, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, TAMIU Instructor, Webb County Auditor, Co-owner of R&M Gift Shop, owner of Dollar Express, Consulting Auditor for Zapata County, and Director of Purchasing at LCC. His commitment to the community is demonstrated by his involvement and dedication of numerous hours of services to the Laredo Jaycees, United Way, member and President of LASO, member and President LCC Board of Trustees, member and President of LCC Foundation, Quarterback Club, Border Olympics, CDD and Adult Ministry Class at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, PTA President of Ursuline Academy, member and President of St. Patrick's Men's Club, and member of the St. Patrick's Amigos de Jesus Choir. While Mr. Martinez was highly recognized at the local, state and national levels by many organizations for his dedication, excellence and service; his number one priority was his family. He was proud of his daughters and his grandchildren. His love and legacy will continue in the hearts of his family. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa and his staff, Doctor's Hospital ER and ICU staff, Laredo Fire Department Paramedics, Superior Home Health Service, his caregiver Lupita Yepez, and his family and friends. The family will receive condolences from 6 to 9 in the evening Thursday the 6th of March 2014 in the main chapel at Joe Jackson North, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be celebrated at 7 that evening. The funeral mass will be celebrated the following morning the 7th of March 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 10 in the morning. All are asked to meet at the church as there will be no procession from the funeral home. Funeral services will conclude after the Mass with a private inurnment being held at a later date.
