RAMIRO QUINTERO GARZA February 08, 1948 - September 14, 2015 "It is important to remember that those we love are never truly gone. Their bodies may have run its course, but their soul will live forever" (Author Unknown) Ramiro Quintero Garza, 67, was called home to our heavenly father on Monday, September 14, 2015. He left peacefully surrounded by loved ones just as he always wished. Mr. Garza was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. In 1967, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and proudly served in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he continued to serve the Naval Reserves. He furthered his education by attending Laredo Junior College and received an Associate's Degree and obtained a Peace Officer's License. Soon after, he proudly served Webb County as an Airport Police Officer and Firefighter for five years. It was then that Webb County Fire Department was incorporated with the City of Laredo and Mr. Garza was accepted to represent the City of Laredo Fire Department. He was employed for 20 years as a Firefighter for the City of Laredo until his retirement in November 2003. Throughout his career and life, he was admired by many and established numerous long lasting friendships and memories. While fighting a long, courageous battle with various illnesses, he still managed to uplift the lives of those who surrounded him and those who were fortunate enough to cross his path, primarily his beloved wife, daughter, and grandchildren. His love, laughter, and humor were truly one of a kind. He was quite an extraordinary man, devoted husband, amazing father, and even a greater grandfather. Till his last breath, he remained the rock and protector of his family. Mr. Garza is preceded in death by parents, Telesforo and Justina (Quintero) Garza; brother, Francisco Q. (Enriqueta) Garza Sr.; sister, Maria Filiberta (Manuel, Sr.) Garcia; and father and mother -in- law Roberto and Carmen (Lopez) Duran Sr. Left to honor and cherish his loving memory is his beloved wife of 45 years, Rosalinda D. Garza; loving daughter, Roxana Rubi Garza; and devoted grandchildren, Shelby L. Varela Jr. and Zasha Rubi Varela. He is further survived by his brothers, Fernando Q. (Nicolasa) Garza, Tomas Q. (Alma) Garza, Telesforo Q. Garza Jr.; and sister, Alicia Q. (Benancio) Arriaga; as well as by numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. The family would like to express their upmost gratitude to Dr. Luis M. Benavides, Dr. Monte Allen, Dr. Rafael Deliz, Dr. Winder Vasquez, and his longtime health care assistant and friend Jose Luis Eguia for all the care and attention provided. The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel, 1410 Jacaman Rd. A Rosary and Vigil will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Funeral procession will depart on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment with Military honors will the follow to the Laredo City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by U.S. Navy, American Legion Post 59, and the Laredo Fire Department Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be: Shelby L. Varela Jr., Telesforo Q. Garza Jr., Reyanldo Garza Sr. , Manuel Garcia, Jr., Jerry Lopez Jr., Randy Ray Lopez, Ricardo Duran, Jr., and Isaac Dominguez.
