Mr. Preciliano “Chacho” Lopez, 91, rode off into the sunset on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Laredo, Texas. The youngest and last survivor of six Lopez brothers, born between 1912-1925. He now joins them in the big round up in the sky.
Chacho was born in San Pablo Ranch, Texas and lived in Oilton, Texas most of his life. He lived in Laredo, Texas the last 5 years of his life under the care of his daughter, Elia.
Chacho found a passion for ranching very early in his life and was very proud to have worked since the age of 13 with his dear friends, J.O. Walker, Gene Walker Sr. and Gene “Primo” Walker Jr. Chacho was an outdoorsman who enjoyed the peace and serenity of the country life. He had great respect and love for ranching and believed in a strong work ethic. Despite his illness and age, he still had a yearning for living his cowboy life.
He is now reunited with his parents: Regino and Julia Lopez; his wife Irma Dora S. Lopez and son Juan P. Lopez; brothers: Nicolas, Anastacio, Manuel, Margarito and Jesus Lopez and sisters: Maria de Jesus Lopez and Aurora Benavides.
He is survived by his daughters: Rebecca Gutierrez and Elia (Manuel) Maciel; sister: Guadalupe Rodriguez as well as by his grandchildren: Manuel J. (Grace) Maciel; twins: Juan P and Juan G. Lopez, Michael E. Maciel, William R. Gutierrez Jr., Priscilla Lopez and Jessica M. (Carlos) Hinojosa; great-grandchildren: Daniel G. Lopez, Natalie C. Maciel, Ivan Preciliano Lopez, Justin J. Lopez, Evelyn G. Lopez, Matthew K. Maciel, Dante S. Lopez, Carlos J. Hinojosa, Diego M. Lopez and Fatima Ornelas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to offer its utmost gratitude and a heartfelt thank you to his primary care physician: Adonis Zuniga-Goldwater, M.D., for his compassionate care, commitment to professionalism and support, as well as to the staff and nurses of Altus Hospice for their tender, professional and exceptional nursing care. We would like to also acknowledge Deacons Brizuela and Soto for their much needed spiritual comfort during his illness and finally to his caregiver Juanny Reyes.
The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral and Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez, Laredo, TX.
A Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral procession will depart at 8:40 a.m. from the chapel to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Gene “Primo” Walker Jr., Jeffory Walker, Manuel J. Maciel, Michael E. Maciel, Juan P. Lopez Jr., Juan G. Lopez, Carlos Hinojosa and Rudy Rodriguez.
