Peggy J. Newman, 92, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Friday, April 19, 2024.
A devout member of the First Baptist Church, Peggy's faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her through both joyous celebrations and challenging times. Her dedication extended beyond the walls of the church, as she selflessly contributed to organizations such as the United Way, the Salvation Army, Casa de Misericordia, Habitat for Humanity, Laredo Food Bank, Catholic Charities, and Make A Wish Foundation embodying the spirit of service and altruism. She was the first woman to ever be appointed and serve as a member of the IBC Board. Her contributions to serving on the board for twenty years made a huge impact on the city of Laredo.
A loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, Peggy’s enthusiasm for her favorite team added an extra sparkle to her vibrant personality. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating unforgettable memories that will be forever treasured.
She was preceded in death by “the love of her life”, her husband, Bernard “B.P.” Newman; her parents, William L. and Beulah Beheler; sons, Joel Pearce Newman, and David Thomas Newman.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark Newman (Darla), Nancy De Anda (Javier); Ana Laura Newman, daughter-in-law; Grandchildren, Thomas Newman (Danielle), Daniel Newman (Sarah), Aileen Newman, Lance Newman (Monica), Kristine Newman, Monica Huffman (Burdette), Melissa Jones (Micah), Sarah Stiles (Darrell), Catherine Hamilton, (Matteson), Brian Newman, and Lindsay Newman; great-grandchildren, Dylan Newman, Aurora and Morley Newman, Emily and Rachel Palacios, Izabella, Mila and Penelope Newman, James Ganoa, Giselle Silva, Brand, Baker, and Addison Huffman, Michelle Jones, Gunner, Hudson, Knox and Maddox Stiles, Wyatt, Henry and Brooks Hamilton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, April 25, 2024 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Chapel Service will commence at 7 p.m.
A “Celebration of Life” Service will be conducted on Friday morning, April 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Laredo, 7610 Bartlett Ave. Family is requesting attendants to meet at the Church.
Interment will follow at the family plot of the City of Laredo Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Mark Newman, Javier de Anda, Dennis Nixon, Tommy Newman, Danny Newman, Lance Newman, Brian Newman, and Lauro Santos.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Burdette Huffman, Micah Jones, Darrell Stiles, Matteson Hamilton, Larry Norton, and Douglas Howland.
