Paula Mata Camacho February 19, 1907 - January 24, 2015 Paula Camacho, age 107 and longtime resident of Laredo passed peacefully in her sleep Saturday, January 24, 2015 at her home in Universal City, TX. Mrs. Camacho was born February 19, 1907 in Tlaxcalilla, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to parents Jose and Juana Grimaldo Mata. She moved to Laredo in early childhood after the death of her father. She was joined in marriage to Jose Angel Camacho on June 5, 1943 at San Agustin Cathedral in Laredo. To this union two children were born; Melita Camacho Wise of Universal City, Texas and Jose Camacho, Jr. of Austin, Texas. Mrs. Camacho was active in her Catholic faith, both at San Agustin and Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Laredo. She was a homemaker and a business woman as co-owner with her husband in the operation of their gas station and store in the historic district of Hidalgo Street. Her passions were faith and family. Mrs. Camacho was an avid gardener who delighted in life and beauty. She was an intelligent woman and voracious reader who valued and encouraged excellence and higher education for her children. Since the death of her husband in 1979, Mrs. Camacho has made her home with daughter Melita in Universal City where she enjoyed an active life with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing her love, wonderful wit and humor as well as her enthusiasm for the Spurs. In addition to her children Melita and Jose, she is survived by grandchildren Rene Wise of Universal City and Melissa Wise (Cibolo) and great grandchildren Alyssa Bailey, and Cole and Austin Zimmerman, sister Maria Lira (Las Vegas), daughter-in-law Brenda Melrose Camacho (Austin), step grand-daughter Michelle Smedley (Austin) and numerous special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Camacho is preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters and a brother and son-in-law Gilberto Wise. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 5 to 9 in the evening. A Rosary will be held at 7 in the evening. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to San Agustin Cathedral for a prayer service to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
