PATTY LANE GAYLE MILES
July 03, 1929 - August 22, 2016
Patty Lane Gayle Miles, much-loved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2016 following an extended illness. She was 87 years old.
Born in Stamping Ground, Ky. to Iva and Lance Gayle, her July 3, 1929 birthday might have fallen a day short of Independence Day, but she remained a firecracker throughout her lifetime.
Patty spent her early years in Kentucky before moving to Anderson, Ind. with her family in 1936. She was an energetic child, with days spent roller skating, riding bicycles and enjoying life with her friends and siblings.
Patty married Lawrence Miles on March 1, 1958, and the two spent 46 happy years together. They relished family time and enjoyed travel, making frequent trips to Las Vegas. Those close to her remember Patty as a devoted woman who loved fiercely, enjoyed her crossword puzzles and never missed a card game. While cooking was never her forte, she took joy in gathering with friends over meals most often at local eateries.
Patty maintained an extensive career at Inland Fisher Guide, and was a longtime member of Anderson's Trinity Episcopal Church. She gave her time and energy to a number of organizations, including the Madison County Shrine Ladies Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Lady Elks and the American Legion. Declining health led Patty to relocate to Laredo in 2015 to live with family.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents and husband, sister Jeanne Dunn, brother Robert Gayle and granddaughter Courtney Miles.
She is survived by sons Anthony Oexman-Phoenix, Ariz. and Lawrence Miles (Connie)-Laredo; granddaughters Sage Oexman, Allison Miles, Mallory Miles and Sydney Miles; brother Jack Gayle (Faye)-McCordsville, Ind., four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank those who provided loving support during Patty's final days. They include, but are not limited to, Dr. Arturo Garza-Gongora and staff, Irasema Cornejo of Salud Home Health, and the nurses and staff of Laredo Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service for friends and family will take place this fall in Anderson, though details are not yet available.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Trinity Episcopal Church: 1030 Brown-Delaware Street, Anderson, Indiana, 46016 or Christ Church Episcopal: 2320 Lane Street, Laredo, Texas, 78043.
