Mr. Omar Pablo Martinez was born on January 25, 1928 in Laredo, Texas, the son of the late Juvenal Martinez and Juliana Benavides Martinez.-He graduated from Martin High School in 1946.
He served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Sergeant during the Korean Conflict from October 5, 1950 to October 6, 1952.
He took advantage of the G.I. Bill to further his education.-He attended Laredo Jr. College for two years and on January 30, 1960 obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.-He is a Professional Engineer registered with the State of Texas.
Before his graduation from the university, Omar was employed by the Rodolfo Flores Brokerage firm and the United States Bureau of Reclamation.-While with the Bureau of Reclamation, he worked as a surveyor in different places such as San Angelo, Cuero, Edna and Victoria.
Soon after his graduation from the university, Mr. Martinez married Miss Beatriz Trevino of Laredo, daughter of the late Justino Trevino and Adelina Perez on October 8, 1960 in Laredo.-He continued to work with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation residing in Weslaco, Texas.
In 1964, he transferred to Amarillo, Texas where he and his family resided for two years.-From there, they moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and there worked for the bureau for four and a half years.
In January 1971, he and his family moved to Harlingen, Texas at which time he transferred to the International Boundary and Water Commission where he remained employed by the Federal Government until his retirement on May 31, 1986 after thirty one years in federal service.
He was preceded in death by his parents:-Juvenal Martinez Uribe and Juliana Benavides Gutierrez; daughter: Berta M. Goff; sister: Aida I. M. Henderson; brother: Alonzo Martinez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years:-Beatriz and by his son Javier Omar (Lisa) Martinez and his grandchildren:-Rachel Lee Martinez, Erica Dannielle Martinez, Phillip W. Goff, Jr., Justin M. Goff and Angelina Marie Goff; sisters:-Elsa M. Brashears and Estela M. Barton; son-in-law, Phillip W. Goff; as well as beloved nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.
Mr. Martinez has ranch holdings in Zapata County and belongs to a prominent Martinez family from San Ygnacio and Laredo.
