Mrs. Olivia Garcia Pena, or "Dolly", as she was affectionately known to her friends, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 3, 2013, with her loved ones by her side.-She is now with our Lord in heaven, and with her husband of 58 years, Augie.-
The eldest of three children, Dolly was born on November 28, 1925, to Rufino G. and Josephine Worsham Garcia.-She was raised in Laredo, Texas, and graduated from Ursuline Academy.-She married Augusto F. Pena, also of Laredo, on August 18, 1951, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.-
Dolly was committed to her faith and her church, Blessed Sacrament, where she was a member and participated in many organizations.-She and Augie were members of the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.-She was a very active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Isabella the Catholic, No. 683, and served the organization in several capacities.-She held several offices including District Deputy, Local Regent, State Treasurer, State Secretary, State Regent, and served four years as National Director.-She was celebrated in 2007 for 60 years of service to the organization.
A servant of the community, Dolly was a member of the Society of Martha Washington and the Pan American Round Table, and held offices in both.-She was a life member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, a charter member of the Laredo Business and Professional Women's Association, and belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dolly worked for her father at Miracle Candle Company and then as a licensed real estate broker for years.-In their retirement, she and Augie loved to dance with the Stardusters, and travel, making several trips all over the United States, Canada, and Europe.-She had a great zest for life, and was always optimistic, upbeat, cheerful, and fun-loving.-
In addition to her mother and father, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Augusto F. Pena, brother Richard R. Garcia, brother-in-law Gustavo J. Pena, and sister-in-law Lucila Pena.
Dolly is survived by her daughters Dr. Diana M. Pena of Laredo and Mrs. Josie (Lester) Powell of San Antonio; grandchildren James and Emily Powell of San Antonio, and Mrs. Marcia (Brandon) Turner of Austin; great-grandson Jacob Preston Turner; brother Henry (Ana Maria) Garcia of Laredo, sister-in-law Diana Casso Garcia of Hebbronville, brother-in-law William M. Pena of Houston, and several relatives and friends living in San Diego, Brownsville, and Laredo.-
Our family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers: Concha and Jose Luis Mata, Maria Sanchez, and all the doctors and nurses at Doctors Hospital of Laredo, especially Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa.
