Olga Cecilia Vela Gaut, born in Laredo, Texas on October 18, 1923, died peacefully in her sleep on October 22, 2021 in Laredo, Texas.
Olga, affectionately called Yaya, graduated from Martin High School and attended Laredo Junior College and business college. She worked at Laredo National Bank until she married and lived in Houston, Texas from 1963 until 2013, when she came back to live in her hometown. All her nieces and nephews have beautiful memories of Yaya, a very spunky go-getter. She never forgot their birthdays, or special occasions. She taught all of them the importance of a good work ethic, a good balance between work and play, and the importance of developing strong family ties. She will be missed greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Gaut Jr., parents, Mateo Vela and Cecilia Bataille Vela, siblings, George M. Vela, Arturo B. Vela, Antonio B. Vela, and Olivia Vela Gutierrez.
She is survived by her two sisters, Estella V. Atwell, and Esther V. Huisman (Lawrence); special nieces, Anna Medina, of Dallas, Texas, Olivia Garza-Gongora (Ernesto), Dianna Gutierrez, and Laura Gutierrez; special nephew, Alberto Gutierrez III (Sylvia), along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.
The funeral procession will be departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1718 San Jorge Ave. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ernesto Garza-Gongora Jr., Frank Allred III, and Lawrence Huisman
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernesto Garza-Gongora Sr., Alberto Gutierrez III, Anthony Gutierrez, Manuel Perla, and Julio Perla
