Mrs. Ofelia P. Gonzalez, 71, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2017.
Ofelia was born in Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas. Early in life she attended Sacred Heart Boarding School in Laredo until her mother took her along to work as a migrant worker across the United States. She later returned to Nuevo Laredo where she met and married Jose Gonzalez making Laredo Texas their home. She widowed in 1982 and in 1986 moved to Jennings Florida to be closer to family where she also worked for many years at Jerry McCloud Farms as a field worker. In 1996 she moved back to Laredo Texas where she continued to raise her children. While raising her children Ofelia attended ESL Classes and Citizenship Classes at Larga Vista Community Center and ultimately obtaining her citizenship in 1998.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gonzalez Hernandez; mother Maria de Jesus Perales Maldonado; her two sons, Jose Martin Gonzalez, Jose Alvaro Gonzalez; her daughter Guadalupe Gonzalez; and her brother Tomas Perales Maldonado.
She is survived by her children, Trinidad (Victor) Montalvo, Amparo (Juan) Antonio, Andrea (Jorge) Lopez, Cristobal (Consuelo) Gonzalez, Pelagio Gonzalez, Benito (Noelia) Gonzalez, Teresa (Ruben) Covarrubias, Simon Gonzalez, Diana (Eduardo) Rivera, Graciela (Carlos) Gonzalez, and Ivan Esparza; 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and her sister Lucia Perales Hernandez. She is also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Road from 5 to 9 in the evening. A Rosary will be recited at 7 in the evening.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017 departing the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. to San Vicente de Paul Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Cristobal Gonzalez, Benito Gonzalez, Simon Gonzalez, Ivan Esparza, Ruben Covarrubias Sr., Ruben Covarrubias Jr., Jose Boles Eddie Rivera, and Brando Gonzalez.
