Odilia Luna de Rodriguez, age 95, of Mirando City, Texas passed away on December 26, 2014 at the Retama Manor Nursing Center in Alice, Texas after a long illness. She was born on August 23, 1919 in Laredo, Texas to Moises Desiderio Luna and Marta Trevio Luna. Our mother was a full-time domestic engineer (homemaker) who devoted her life to raising six children and putting them through school. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family, she was a selfless person who always put her family and others first. Her greatest joy was having her family, especially her grandchildren, around her. She loved gardening, embroidery, and baking lemon meringue pies and oatmeal cookies. She enjoyed watching telenovelas and Gunsmoke and she was an avid Spurs fan. Her favorite telenovela actor was William Levy and her favorite basketball player was Manu Ginobili. Mrs. Rodriguez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rosendo Rodriguez, Sr.; sons, Juan Rodriguez, Sr. and Rosendo Rodriguez, Jr.; siblings, Moises (Patricia ) Luna, Jr., Daniel (Estela) Luna, Ofilia (Ernesto) Santos, Raymundo (Aurora) Luna, and Rodolfo (Dora / Dominique) Luna; and sons-in-law, Israel Palacios and Anton Uhlrich. Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her daughters, Dr. Ana Maria Rodriguez of Edinburg, Texas, Rebecca Palacios of Alice, Texas, Maria Elena Rodriguez-Uhlrich, and Dolores Yvonne Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas; daughters-in-law, Berta G. Rodriguez of Alice, Texas and Guadalupe H. Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas; and brother, Leopoldo (Agustina ) Luna of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Rodriguez was very proud of her seven grandchildren, including Ana (Michael) Salazar, Juan (Eliana) Rodriguez, Valentin Rodriguez, Dr. Sofia (Kyle) Chapman, Carmela (Gabriel) Ramos, Olivia (Steven) Rodriguez, and Rosendo (Yesenia) Rodriguez, III. Mrs. Rodriguez also loved her ten great-grandchildren, including Larissa Ann Salazar, Abigail Rodriguez, Lia Andrea Salazar, Rosendo Rodriguez, IV, Juan Rodriguez, III, Mia Jordana Garza, Gabriel Ramos, II, Ysella Rodriguez, Feliz Marvell Ramos, and Kyler Gunner Chapman. Mrs. Rodriguez is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and pets, all of whom she loved dearly. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, January 01, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd, Laredo, Texas 78041 where a Rosary will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday morning, January 02, 2015. Procession will depart at 9 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels in Laredo, Texas to St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mirando City, Texas for Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery located on Highway 641 between Mirando City and Oilton, Texas. Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of the St. Agnes Church Altar Society in Mirando City, Texas and served as a room mother and PTA member for 33 years throughout her six childrens' school years. She was also very proud of serving as a poll watcher and elections assistant when she lived in Mirando City and was a staunch Democrat. The Rodriguez family wishes to thank Mr. Ricardo Longoria, Administrator at Retama Manor Nursing Center in Alice, Texas as well as the nurses, CNAs, medication aides, housekeeping/laundry, dietary and rehabilitation staff for all of the love and care they provided Mrs. Rodriguez during her stay. The family also wishes to thank the staff of River City Hospice, specifically CNAs Veronica Villarreal and Sonia Balboa, as well as Serena Soto, nurse and case manager, and lastly Dr. Sergio Cantu, all of whom cared for Mrs. Rodriguez for the past year while on hospice care.
