Octaviano "Toby" Rodriguez, 54, a highly devoted Police Officer, Husband and Father entered into eternal rest Saturday August 20, 2011.
Toby Rodriguez began his law enforcement career in April 1986 as a correctional officer and in 1989 became a Texas Peace Officer with the Webb County Sheriff's department.
In 1997, Toby Rodriguez became part of Laredo's finest as a patrol officer with the City of Laredo Police Department.-While protecting and serving the citizens of the community, he also used his experience to become a Field Training Officer, mentoring and preparing new officers for their duties.-He became an instructor for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and also for the American Red Cross as a CPR instructor.-He taught and trained for the South Texas Border Regional Police Academy at Laredo Community College, LCC Criminal Justice Department, and all Laredo Law Enforcement Agencies with in-services and recruit classes.
Toby was member of CLEAT (Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas) and LPOA (Laredo Police Officer's Association) where he served as president for several years.-
Toby dedicated his time to several local community organizations as a volunteer coach for basketball at Amparo Gutierrez Elementary school.-He also dedicated his time to the Special Olympics Area 21, Gateway Girls Softball Little League, where he was Vice President for 2 years.-Toby also managed the girls 9-10 All-Star Team from 2010-2011.
His kindness and unselfish ways is what distinguished him as a person and Officer.-He always gave it his all to show others the positive side of any negative situation. Toby will still be found in the lives he has influenced and touched.-Toby will also be found patrolling the City of Laredo because every officer will always carry a part of him.- He will be greatly missed by his family, co-workers and peers.-
Toby was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo & Heribertha Rodriguez and brother Ramon Rodriguez.-
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Griselda R. Rodriguez, daughters Sarha B. and Melissa A. Rodriguez, brothers and sisters, Petra R. (Gilberto A. Sr.) Iruegas, Maria Yolanda (Felipe Jose ") Trujillo, Alma Ramon, Maria Juanita (Rafael) Lozano, Alfredo Rodriguez Jr., Parents "?in-law, Sabino (Bertha) Rivera, His close Sisters-in-law, Sandra R. (George Jr.) Barrera, Adriana Rivera, Araceli (Jorge) Valdez, and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Rivera "". He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great friends.-He will be rendered final law enforcement honors.
