MSG. Carlos Cruz Betancourt, US Army Retired, age 88, answered his final call by God the Almighty Father on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
MSG Cruz Betancourt was born on Christmas Day in 1930 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, to Ramon and Maria Cruz Betancourt. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and a short tour turned into a lifelong career of exemplary military service for over 22 years. Carlos married the love of his life, Hermila Morales in San Antonio and together raised two loving sons. He will be forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ramon and Maria Cruz and his brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are: his sons and their families: Dr. Carlos (Julia) Cruz and Marvin (Lisa Goodman) Cruz Morales; grandchildren: Amanda (Dan) Myhrberg, Marvin Lee Cruz, Ryan Cruz, and Jason Cruz; great-grandchild: Hayden Marie Cruz; and sister: Maria Cruz Betancourt; as well as by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to: Doctors Hospital Emergency Room and Med-4 Staff and Nurses, Dr. Olayinka Holt, Rev. Hector Flores, Chaplain and Nurses on Wheels for their care, attention, and support they provided to only their father, but to their family as well.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, December 26, 2019 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday morning, December 27, 2019 at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels.
Procession will form and depart immediately following the funeral service to the Laredo City Cemetery -Veteran’s Section for his Rite of Committal and Interment. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard and The American Legion Post 59.
Pallbearers will be: Carlos Cruz Jr., Marvin Cruz Morales, Marvin Cruz Jr., Ryan Cruz, Jason Cruz, Amanda Myhrberg, and Carlos Diaz.
