Mike P. Valdez
February 17, 1948 – February 13, 2019
Mike P. Valdez, 70, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. A prolific musician and chess player, Mike played the upright bass with his brothers and sister in the well-known Valdez Brothers Orchestra for many years and was sought out by many other orchestras and bands. Mike loved music all his life and this showed in his cheerful and friendly personality. Also known for his skill at playing chess, Mike was very successfully and won city-wide championships.
To his family, he was and will always be “Grampy,” a very loving, playful, patient and gentle man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Concepcion Valdez; brothers, James Valdez and Timoteo Valdez.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 45 years of marriage, Narcissa Valdez; his siblings, Estella Lopez, Ricardo (Gisela) Valdez, Antonio (Mary Alice) Valdez, Felipe (Sylvia) Valdez, Juan (Andrea +) Valdez; his sons, Miguel Alfonso Valdez and Luis Antonio (Anna) Valdez. Also included are: Mary Prevost (Philippe), Eugenia E. (Patrick) Brown, Sergio A. (Cynthia) Aradillas, David (Norma) Aradillas, George Aradillas; grandchildren, Anna Carolina Valdez, Joaquin Valdez, Christine Prevost, Judith (Antonio) Ramirez, Lauren (John) Mayfield, Katherine Brown, Patrick (Lisa) Brown, Alberto Aradillas, Samaria Aradillas, Selika Aradillas, and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and friends. A sincere appreciation to his long life friend, Jose Hernandez.
The family will be receiving condolences on Monday morning, February 18, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, February 18, 2019 departing at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be: Miguel Alfonso Valdez, Luis Antonio Valdez, Sergio A. Aradillas, David Aradillas, George Aradillas, and Joaquin Valdez.
