MICHAEL IRA CARESS January 08, 1944 - August 24, 2015 Michael I. Caress, 71, passed away on August 24, 2015, in Laredo, Texas. He was born in Mobile, Alabama, on January 08, 1944, to Hyman and Diana Caress. Michael grew up in California and later graduated from Cal State Los Angeles. He spent his college summers training in Officer Candidate School where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduating. It was during this time that he met his wife, Marica Guerra, to whom he was married for 47 years. Together they had a son, Marc, who was Michael's greatest pride. Michael proudly served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps, finishing his tour of duty as a Captain and a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Soon after, his passion for flying led him to a career as a commercial pilot for Eastern Airlines. Michael later moved to Laredo to pursue his real estate ventures. He was known to many through his participation at the monthly sheriff's sales and foreclosure auctions. What many did not know about Michael was his love and care for homeless cats. He could often be seen feeding cats behind Toos and HEB. For this reason, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Laredo Animal Protective Society at 2500 Gonzalez St. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Rosa Guerra Caress; his son, Marc (Eden) Caress of Costa Mesa California; his brother, Stanley (Lori) Caress of Carrolton, Georgia; his cousin, Mary Caratazzalo of Surprise, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Olga Benavides Guerra; and sisters-in-law, Rosa Maria (Gary) Andon, Olga (Rafael Jr.) Garcia, Toni (Ron ) Blake, Adriana (Fausto Jr.) Dovalina, and Ana Laura (David) Newman. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews, Shelly (J.R.) Johnson, Alissa Andon, Rafael Raul Garcia, Roberto (Marlynn) Garcia, Amanda Chamberlain, Ronald K. Chamberlain, Jr., Brian P. Newman, and Lindsay K. Newman. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
