AMALIA “MAYA” T. GARZA
NOVEMBER 17, 1943 – MARCH 4, 2020
Our beloved Amalia “Maya” T. Garza entered the arms of our Heavenly Father on March 4, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
Amalia “Maya” Garza, daughter of the late Cayetano Tijerina Jr. and Dora P. Tijerina was born November 17, 1943 in Laredo, Texas. She attended public schools and was a graduate of the Martin High School Class of 1962.
In 1962, she married the love of her life, Jose “Che” Garza. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
A devoted public servant, Maya was an employee of Webb County. Maya had the warmest spirit, the kindest heart, and eyes that could light up a room. She could dance her way into your heart before you knew it. As an avid reader, she captivated her family with her wonderful stories. In the same token, she listened to others with her heart and was always willing to embrace anything you shared with her. Be it significant or trivial, any encounter you shared, she loved you for it, just the same. Though her nature was soft, she lived and loved passionately. Her attention to detail radiated in all that she touched, whether it was crafting wreaths, Christmas ornaments, or teaching her daughters how to cook and bake family recipes.
Maya had a fondness for travel, to explore and better understand different cultures. While she traveled the world, Las Vegas and Queretaro hold a special place in her heart.
Maya always looked forward to her monthly reunion planning meetings with her friends from the “Mighty Tigers” Class of ‘62.
The family would like to thank Dr. Arturo Garza-Gongora for his medical care and friendship.
She is preceded in death by her parents as well as by her father and mother in law: Jose and Delia Garza.
