MARICELA PEREZ

May 27, 1944 – August 15, 2017

On this day the family mourned the passing of a great and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Maricela Perez, 73, was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

One of her passions was teaching children which is why she worked with LISD for over 45 years as well as teaching Catechism at San Francisco de Javier Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ruben Perez, Sr.; and her parents, Cayetano and Graciela Leija.

Maricela is survived by her sons, Ruben (Grethel) Perez Jr., Ricardo (Susan) Perez; grandchildren, Ruben Perez III, Gabriel G. Perez, Victoria G. Perez; siblings, Adriana (Oscar) Mena, Mario (…Pearl) Leija, Cayetano Leija, Jaime (Ramona) Leija, and Guadalupe (…Leo) Flores; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 18, 2017, at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez from 8 to 12 in the morning; with a Rosary at 9 a.m.

Funeral procession will then depart from the chapel at 11:30 a.m. to San Francisco Javier Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m.

A private cremation will be held at a later date.
