Mrs. Maria R. de la Garza, 79, was called and welcomed by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ during the early hours of Tuesday, April 12, 2011.-
"A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth."-Ecclesiastes 7:1
Maria courageously fought her battle, never loosing her affectionate smile, loving aura.-Although she no longer is physically present with us, we know that she smiles upon us from her heavenly home, where pain and sickness are not existent.-Maria was an active member of her church, always willing to share a kind word and always putting God before anything else.-She was a strong advocate of the mentally disabled and a member of the Planning Network Advisory Committee; she worked closely with the Board of Regents, making sure all had a voice.-She will be forever missed but not forgotten by all whose life she touched.

She is preceded in death by her loving son, John Paul Jones, Jr.
Surviving her are her loving and caring spouse who never left her side:-Mr. Luis F. de la Garza; daughters:-Mary Pat Flaherty, Roseann Ferguson; son, Joseph Jones; granddaughter Geneveive Mzili, as well as other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday the 13th of April 2011 beginning at 5 in the evening at the Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring at Cortez.-Pastor Greg Giles of Laredo First Assembly of God will celebrate the evening service at 7 in the evening.-
The funeral cortege will depart the funeral home the morning of Thursday the 14th of April 2011 at 8:30 a.m. to Laredo First Assembly of God for a funeral service at 9 a.m. officiated by Pastor Oscar Sacriste.
Burial will follow the church service at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
