Maria Magdalena Ornelas, 56, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Monday, April 8, 2024. 

She was a beloved educator for 23 years at UISD, dedicating her life to shaping the minds of countless students. Maria, a devoted mother and grandmother, adored her family and cherished the time spent with her loved ones.

Maria’s passion for education was evident in her commitment to her students and colleagues.  Her joyful demeanor, love for helping others, and vibrant personality left a lasting impact on those around her.  Outside of her profession, Maria found joy in various activities such as shopping, traveling, gambling in casinos, and spending time with her loving pets.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Magdalena Ornelas.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Isabella (Tyrese) Skeene; grandson, Raymond Skeene; father, Antonio Ornelas; sister, Maria C. (Daniel) Garcia; brother, Juan Antonio (Ingrid) Ornelas; her furry daughters, Luna and Natty.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and other loving relatives and friends. 

The family will be receiving condolences on Monday evening, April 15, 2024, from 6pm to 9pm at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

A private cremation will be held at a later date.
