MARIA DEL CARMEN LANESE
October 16, 1941 - April 18, 2016
Maria Del Carmen Lanese, 74, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Monday, April 18, 2016.
Carmen, as her friends and loved ones knew her, was born and raised in Laredo. She graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1959, and then completed her college coursework at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Carmen fulfilled her professional calling as a lifelong teacher at Daiches Elementary School. She was very proud of having remained at Daiches for her entire thirty-two year teaching career, where she established lifelong bonds with co-workers and neighborhood families.
A devoted daughter, Carmen cared for her parents unselfishly until their passing. Carmen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, but most importantly, she was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, a former Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. Above all, she was an example of kindness, generosity, love, and piety. Carmen loved playing "bunco" with her girlfriends and participating in the Tuesday Music and Literature Club.
She never missed a San Antonio Spurs game and considered the Spurs her "adopted sons." Carmen relished spending time with her grandchildren and doting on her beloved "Nicolas." She will be missed by her husband, brother, children, grandchildren, cousins, friends, and numerous nieces and nephews here and in Italy and Argentina.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Refugio and Consuelo Davila.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband of 49 years, Nicola Lanese; children, Nicola (Lorena) Lanese Jr., Claudia (Roberto) Lanese Garcia, Arnaldo (Maria Amparo) Lanese; grandchildren, Leah, Leighton, Massimo, Sofia Marcela, Jesus Angel, Arnaldo Nicola; brother, Manuel Jose Davila; brother in law, Rev. Paquale Lanese, OMI; as well as other loved relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Olayinka Holt, Dr. Gilberto Garza Lozano, and Dr. Joseph Camero; as well as all the doctors and nurses at Laredo Medical Center and Laredo Specialty Hospital, especially Alberto Arizola, for the care and kindness shown towards our mother. We would also like to thank the Home Healing Experts, Denise Brieden and Charlie Alvarado.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday morning, April 22, 2016 departing at 10 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
