MARIA JUANA “JUANITA” CANTU

SEPTEMBER 9, 1920 – NOVEMBER 11, 2019

Maria Juana “Juanita” Cantu, 99, entered into her eternal rest in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved one’s.  Juanita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.  She was a Nurse in Mexico and became a prominent Laredo Midwife for over 40 years, having retired from her passion in the early 1990’s.  She delivered many babies into this world, having totaled a little over 5,000 in her tenure.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Israel Cantu; parents: Juan and Bellarina Rocha; siblings: Ricardo Rocha, Eliza Rocha, Juan Jose Rocha, Belia Rocha.

Left to cherish her memory are son’s:  Mario Israel (Alicia) Cantu Sr., Juan Jose Cantu Sr.; her adopted daughter: Maribella (Francisco) Gaspar; grandchildren:  Mario Israel (Gladys) Cantu Jr., Lee (Alejandra Cavazos) Cantu, Leslie D. (Gabriel) Speer, Kimberly Frederick, Juan Jose (Yasmin) Cantu Jr.,  Cynthia Ivette (Iris) Cantu, David A. (Rebecca) Cantu, Elizabeth Cantu, Edgar Cantu; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings:  Jose Guadalupe (Maria de la Luz) Rocha, Maria Salome Mancha, Cecilia Herrera, Eleuterio (Margarita) Rocha, Marta Pomares, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, November 15, 2019 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, November 16, 2019 departing at 8:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be:  Mario Israel Cantu Jr, Lee Cantu, Juan Jose Cantu Jr., David A. Cantu, Edgar Cantu, and Armando Garza.
