Maria del Carmen Guajardo

Maria del Carmen Caballero Guajardo, age 93, entered eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 26, 2021, peacefully at her residence in the presence of family. She was born in Laredo, Texas, on February 10, 1928. She was the youngest and only sister to 5 brothers, (all of whom have predeceased her) Jesus Caballero (Alicia), Arnulfo Caballero (Josefina), Roberto Caballero (Sylvestra) Romeo Caballero, and Guillermo Caballero (Madeline) and to parents Arnulfo and Rosalia Caballero. She was a lifelong resident of Laredo, Texas and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1947. She was employed most of her life at Barrenechea Forwarding where she was beloved and considered a valued employee. She loved what she did and made many lifelong friends there.
Carmen was married to the love of her life, Juan Angel “Chino” Guajardo in 1959, providing love and support to their family throughout their 51 years of marriage until his death in 2010. She is survived by her loving children, Carmen Soto and husband Isidro of Laredo, Tx; Noelia Whitely and husband Jay of Austin, Tx; and Joey Guajardo and wife Gloria of Del Rio, Tx; 6 grandchildren, Robert Soto, Michael Soto (Sarah), Claudia Carrillo (Albert), Eduardo Soto, Eric Soto, and Ivette Soto; 5 great-grandchildren, Olivia Carrillo, RJ Carrillo, Cecilia Carrillo, Aram Soto, and Santiago Soto; and a host of other relatives and very special friends.
Carmen, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and grandaunt was generous of heart and strong in her faith. Her indomitable spirit, the love of her family and dedication to all she did leaves behind a legacy for all to follow. She will be missed but her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday morning, December 30, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 8:00 a.m.
The procession will depart the funeral home the same day at 9:45 a.m. to San Agustin Cathedral for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
Carmen will be interred alongside her husband, mother, and brother at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful caregivers Mari, Magda, Alicia and Norma. A special thank you to Friendly Care Home Health, Pro-Health Nursing, and Holy Savior Hospice.
