Maria Guadalupe Mendoza
November 1, 1934 – January 27, 2025
Maria Guadalupe Mendoza, 90, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on January 27, 2025.
Mrs. Mendoza was born in Ahualulco, San Luis Potosi, Mexico on November 1, 1934. She and her husband, Delfino, along with her three oldest children, moved to Laredo, in 1969, and lived there ever since.
She actively served as a Eucharistic minister at Mother Francis Cabrini Catholic Church for many years, a duty which gave her great happiness and fulfillment. She found joy and happiness in joining the prayer group “Adoracion Nocturna” for over 30 years. She remained active in supporting Mother Cabrini in many other activities as well, something for which she took particular pride in since moving to the parish in the 1970s.
Lupita, as she was known to her friends and family, had many interests. For many years, she enjoyed traveling to her native Mexico with her husband to visit with family. Later, she enjoyed traveling with her children to take in the world around her, including beautiful San Francisco, Louisiana, and northern Michigan, just to name a few. At the forefront of her hobbies were her artistic and culinary skills which she manifested in her work as a custom seamstress for various local businesses. She was also a noted cook specializing in central Mexican cuisine. She took pride in making the wedding dresses for her two daughters and running a restaurant in her hometown in the 1960s. In her later years, she was a fixture in her West Laredo neighborhood, often taking long walks with her various dogs and enjoying the early morning hours of peace and solitude. She took up running later in life and was proud to have finished a 5K race by the age of 50. She remained active until her eighties.
In keeping with her tradition of philanthropy, she often made contributions to organizations that helped animals and her community. Yet, Lupita’s biggest source of pride remained her children and grandchildren. She was supportive of her sons and daughters, their activities, and always encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams, particularly in education.
She was preceded in her death by her husband of fifty-one years, Delfino, who passed away in 2005.
She is survived by her children, Ruben (Maria Guadalupe) Mendoza, Hortencia Mendoza, Elva (Charles †) Brewster and Alex Mendoza, eight grandchildren: Ruben (Nika), Gustavo, Maria Guadalupe, Erik, Victor, Justin Alejandro, Charlie, and Matthew, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
