MARIA DE LOS ANGELES ACEVEDO GARCIA
FEBRUARY 13, 1929 – NOVEMBER 30, 2018

Maria de los Angeles Acevedo Garcia, 89, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Friday, November 30, 2018.

To her family and friends, she was Angie and to her nieces and nephews, and their friends, she was lovingly known as Tia Angie. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, and teacher.

In 1947, she graduated from Martin High School and continued her studies at Laredo Junior College. While at LJC, she tutored local Veterans who had returned from war. She graduated in 1954 from Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas with a degree in Education and Mathematics. Her career in education started with Laredo Independent School District where she taught at Buenos Aires Elementary, Lamar Junior High and Martin High School. She was a beloved math teacher and class sponsor to many local Tigers and retired after 35 years of service in 1982. She was always elated when her former students recognized her in public after she retired and was especially honored to be invited to attend many of their high school reunions.

For many years, she enjoyed being a member of several canasta and birthday clubs and was always sure to carry a deck of cards, dominoes, and loteria just in case there was time for a game or two. Playing card games and solving puzzle books were among her hobbies as well as dancing with family and friends at celebrations. She was always smiling, happy and enjoyed vacationing with her children, and making plans together as a family for their next destination and adventure. Our family is blessed to have shared and created many beautiful memories with her that will last forever in our hearts. She will truly be missed and remembered dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband Blas V. Garcia Sr., parents, Martin and Maria de los Angeles Acevedo, brothers Martin Acevedo, Jr., and Guillermo Hector Acevedo, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Ana Belinda Garcia, Blas V. Garcia Jr. (Estella), David R. Garcia, granddaughter Valeria de los Angeles Garcia Larios, great-grandson Davyan V. Larios, sister Amparo A. Garcia (Salvador +) brother, Gustavo L. Acevedo, Sr. (Valeria) and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
