MARÍA EDNA RODRÍGUEZ DE HERNÁNDEZ

November 08, 1947 – December 12, 2020

María Edna Rodríguez de Hernández, 73, left to dance with the angels December 12, 2020.  She died peacefully in her home.

Edna is survived by her brother, Jesus Luis Rodriguez and his family; loving sons, Rick and David; and her beautiful granddaughters, Camila, Ariana, Olivia and Liliana who called her “Nini.”

Edna spent most of her life in Laredo, Texas.  She attended school at Ursuline Academy and grew up a dancer for Alta Gracia with Azios Garcia.

She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was renowned for acing organic chemistry which led her to find her professional passion as a pharmacist. She was an avid sports fan and garnered exuberance for Texas football. “Touchdown!” and “Hook ‘em Horns” could regularly be heard from the living room for decades to come.

She met her beloved husband during this time, Nicolas Rene Hernandez.  He loved twirling her on the dance floor; they were the perfect couple. They traveled the world together and remained completely in love, even after his passing.

Edna enjoyed running her business, Hernandez Plaza Pharmacy, in Laredo, where she made taking care of one’s health a shopping experience for beautiful treasures. Edna had a love of shopping, bows, and beautiful things.  She could not wait to adorn her beautiful granddaughters, her princesses, her “muñecas” and loved her daughters-in-law as her own.

A woman devoted to her faith, she took several pilgrimages to Holy sites around the world and served as a Eucharistic Minister for Pope John Paul II’s Mass in San Antonio in 1984.

Her elegance, radiant warmth, laugh, and smile will always be remembered.
