Maria Delia Garcia
June 12, 1926-January 1, 2020
Mrs. Maria Delia Garcia, 93, was called by our Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at her home.
Maria Delia was a graduate of Martin High school, Class of 1944. Her life was marked by two remarkable careers. She worked at AT&T/Southwestern Bell from 1944 to 1976, retiring after 30 years of service. She rose through the ranks from operator to manager of Operator Services overseeing the front lines of communication between Laredo and the rest of the world before computers took over. She decided to come out of retirement in 1983 and worked temporary positions at Laredo Independent School District schools, before landing a full time position as Head Attendance Clerk at Lamar Middle School. Altogether she worked for LISD 27 years before retiring in 12/31/2010. She was a prime example of how women in the workforce indeed made a difference. Her careers in both jobs were a testament to it. She had everything. She had her profession, her career, her children, and her husband in a time where this was pure trailblazing [1940's, 50's, 60's, and 70's].
In her personal life, she had a smile for everyone that crossed her path. She was always willing to impart her wisdom. She was known to her family as "Tia Piti". Mrs. Garcia always carried a smile in her heart for everyone and always lent an ear to whomever needed advice.
Mrs. Garcia is preceded in death by her parents, her mother, Elizabeth Gutierrez Perez, her father, Brigido Perez; her beloved husband Baldomero G. Garcia, Sr., and her loving daughter Sara Alicia Garcia; her sister, Maria Del Carmen Villareal Perez, brother, Brigido Perez, Jr., and her nephew, Gerry Garcia.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Baldomero G. Garcia, Jr., numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, a very extended family, and life-long friends.
