Mrs. Maria Magdalena Atherton, most popularly known to everyone as Magda, entered into the gates of heaven on Monday, August 28, 2017 surrounded by her loved one’s by her side. Magda was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico on April 15, 1943 to Marcos and Ignacia Cepeda Uresti.
Magda met the love of her life all according to God’s infinite plan. It all started by in 1966 in a barbershop in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, where two souls met by chance and a budding and longstanding relationship flourished. A relationship built on the foundation of God in the center. Together, she and her husband Charles ministered to the community in California and Laredo for many years. The marriage brought forth two children and many grandchildren that will continue this beautiful legacy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: Hortencia Arrellano, Jose Uresti, Eduardo Uresti, Luciano Uresti, Elvira Trevino and Inglantina Uresti.
Left behind to cherish the memories are her husband of close to 50 years of marriage: Mr. Charles Terry Atherton; children: Sonia Alicia Atherton (Thomas) Roach, Carlos Daniel Lee (Margaret Elizabeth) Atherton; grandchildren: Justine Elizabeth Atherton, Terrance Jay Roach, Sarah Magdalynn Roach, Jazzmin Marie Atherton, Sandra Violet Roach, Richie Laurence Ray Roach, Daisy Eliza Atherton; sisters: Marcelina “Chela” Pena, Sara Uresti Cepeda, Hilda Uresti vda. de Vasquez; brother: Hugo Ismael Uresti and sister in law: Connie Atherton (Paul) Barrera.
In order to commemorate our beloved Magda, we would kindly invite everyone that wishes to attend to wear bright and joyous colors to her funeral, as we celebrate her going home to the Father.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring at Cortez. A funeral service will be officiated in the chapel at 10:30 a.m. by Brother Rogelio “Roger” Valadez.
Procession will form and proceed to the Laredo City Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers will be: Thomas Roach, Steven Hernandez, Walker Jones, Joel Hernandez, Alfonso Garcia and Jorge Uresti.
