MARGUERITE R. "PEGGY" NOTZON

JANUARY 16, 1947 - MAY 11, 2016

On the morning of May 11, 2016, Miss Marguerite R. "Peggy" Notzon, 69, entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father and into his kingdom, surrounded by her friends and family by her side.

"Peggy", as she was called by all fortunate enough to have known her, will be most fondly remembered for the strength and boundless capacity for love with which she cared for her mother, Elizabeth Notzon, in the waning years of her life.

All will attest, as well, to her fierce devotion to friends, dogged dedication as teacher, and bounteous generosity and love as sister, cousin, aunt, and great-aunt.

Graduate of Texas State University, San Marcos, she went on to receive her master's degree in transportation planning from the University of Arizona. She then worked in city transportation planning in South Carolina and Arizona.

She was best known, however, for her extensive career as teacher, first at Lamar Junior High School, then, together with her mother, in Downer's Grove, IL. From there, she taught life skills to soldiers in Kitzingen, Germany, middle school in Coolidge, AZ., and finally, back to Laredo, first at Clark and then Gonzalez middle schools from 1997 until her retirement in 2013.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth ("Betsy") Hardcastle, brothers, Michael, Sam and Jan Notzon, dear cousins, nephews, great-nephews and nieces. With her at the moment of her death was her cousin and best friend, Rod Notzon.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to those who made her final years of life filled with love, kindness, and support: Nick and Sandi Villarreal, Reverend Father Wojciech Przystasz, Suzanne ("Susie") Schafer, cousin Annette ("Tita") Nelson, Ruth Hernandez, Phyllis Gallagher, Veronica Gonzalez, Nancy Leyendecker, the Honorable Judge George M. Kazen, the staff of Nurses on Wheels of Laredo Hospice, and Magali.
