On Thursday, June 28, 2024, Manuel Arreola Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. He was a long-time resident of Laredo and attended St. Augustine School graduating in 1962. He proceeded his studies at St. Mary’s University graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. After graduating from this institution, he joined the Army Reserves where he was a Supply Sgt. until he was honorably discharged in 1971. Manuel was employed by the Texas Employment Commission for over thirty-three years. He was a Tax Auditor in Laredo, a Regional Tax Director in San Antonio, and a State Field Tax Director in Austin, Texas. After his retirement he went on as general manager of the America Pawn Shop where he worked for twenty years. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the American Legion and LULAC.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Amparo Arreola.
Manuel Arreola Jr. (Meme) loved life and embraced it fully especially when surrounded by family and friends. He made everyone feel special and brightened the life of the strangers he met. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He will especially be missed by his first cousins, Elsa H. Garcia and Irma Arreola (Carlos) Villarreal, his nephews and nieces Roger C. Rocha Jr., Ricardo M. Villarreal, Roberta Rocha Benham, Manuel Davila Jr., Cecilia Davila Orfila, Veronica Davila Elizalde, his Amigo/Hermano Manuel Davila and friend and companion Doris Velarde.
Pallbearers will be Max Benham, Manuel Davila Jr., Rolly Elizalde, Jorge Martinez, Lizandro Moreno, Roger C Rocha Jr., Carlos R. Villarreal, and Ricardo M. Villarreal.
Honorary Pallbearers are Manuel Davila and Alfredo R. Gutierrez
The family will be receiving condolences on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring and Cortez; where a vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024, departing Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels at 9:10 a.m. to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
A Private Cremation will be held at a later date.
