L.H. "Chando" Guerra, Jr. was called to rest by our Lord on Friday, December 13, 2013. He was 77 years old. L.H. was born on February 7, 1936 and spent most of his life in Laredo. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Eva Lopez-Guerra and Lizandro H. Guerra Sr., granddaughter Ashley Anne Vara and great-grandson Angel Deavione (Champ) Byrd. "Chando," as most of his friends knew him, attended St. Joseph's Academy and was a graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked as a local realtor for most of his adult life. L.H. was also very involved in local government at the county level and proudly spoke of his time as Webb County Commissioner, Precinct 2. But, what he was best known for was his ability to tell a story and to stir laughter in anyone who lent an ear. His children remember him for his unconditional love and absolute devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by all who were touched by his presence in their lives. L.H. is survived by his daughters, Selina (Miguel "Milco") Guerra-Villarreal and Anita Sylvia Guerra, his loving sister Lamar Guerra, and ex-wife Sylvia Bruni. He also leaves behind his granddaughter Victoria A. Vara; grandson Miguel A. Villarreal, III; great-granddaughter Jaylah R. Byrd; nephew Ted Vurbeff (Rachel); nieces Lori Neel (Parker) and Cindy Vurbeff; and numerous Guerra-Lopez-Saenz cousins. The family will receive condolences the evening of Tuesday the 17th of December 2013 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7 that evening. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday the 18th of December 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2219 Galveston St. All attending the funeral on Wednesday morning are asked to meet at the church. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Miguel Villarreal, Jr., Ted Vurbeff, Tony Villarreal, Paul Swisher, Eduardo Efrain Guerra, and Esteban Saenz. All services will conclude after the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Chando's memory to either: Voz de Ninos 902 E.
