Our beloved mother, Lilia Solis Flores, 89, of Laredo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Doctor’s hospital with her son, James by her side. She was a beautiful lady, great friend, loyal wife, and cherished mother and grandmother.
Lilia was born in Alice, Texas, the daughter of Jesus G. and Cristina P. Solis. She grew up in Alice, Corpus Christi, and Hebbronville, Texas. She was a graduate of Hebbronville High School, Class of 1951. She married her sweetheart, Margarito C. (Marty) Flores of Robstown, Texas. They moved to San Antonio where Marty was stationed at Lackland AFB with the USAF. She was a dedicated military wife who followed her husband throughout his military career to Misawa AFB Japan, March AFB, California, Minot AFB, North Dakota, Laredo, AFB, Texas, and Torrejon AFB Spain, JUSMG-MAAG. Together, they had ten children, Michael Marty Flores, Margaret Mae Flores, Deborah Ann Flores, Linda Diana (Javier R.) Vera, Senator Peter Paul (Elizabeth) Flores, Patricia Daria Flores, Julia Lee (Danny) Williams, Joan Marie Flores, James Edward (Marta) Flores, and the late Robert Kenneth Flores.
Lilia was noted as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and daughter. She gave a special part of her to each of her loved ones. She was a generous and caring person who always placed others at the forefront. She loved reading novels, antiquing, flea marketing, shopping, family gatherings, and decorating for the holidays. She especially loved going out to eat her favorite shrimp entrees!
Lilia was proceeded in death by her husband, Margarito C. Flores, son, Robert Kenneth Flores, Father, Jesus G. Solis, mother, Cristina P. Solis, brothers, Baldomero P. Solis, Hector P. Solis, sisters, Irma Lee Solis, Estella S. Cabrera, Julia S. Lopez, and baby Lily P. Solis. Left to cherish her memory are, her sister, Emma Solis Gomez, nine children, 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn (Alex Quintana) Flores, Michael Vincent (Annie) Flores, Victor Rene (Marisa) Flores, Lilia Lynnette (Matthew) Trevino, Dr. Javier Ricardo (Dr. Monica) Vera, Christina (Mark) Segura, Victoria Ann Flores, Katherine Nicole Proa Esq., Erica Lee Vasquez, Juliana Marie (Chris Carrion) Vasquez, Lisa Angelina Vasquez, Joan Marie (Chris) Rodriguez, Robert Kenneth Flores, Jr., and 13 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Special thanks go out to Elena Patino Vasquez, who has been Mother’s caretaker and has lovingly attended to her needs for two years.
The family will be receiving condolences on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning, October 5, 2021 departing at 9:15 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
