LILIA C. ACEVEDO Mrs. Lilia C. Acevedo, devoted wife and loving mother, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on June 23, 2015 at the age of 87. Mrs. Acevedo was a beautician and the owner of the House of Beauty for many years until she closed her business to help care for her mother. She was a devout Catholic and Christian woman with a strong faith who spent much of her day in prayer, praying for family, friends, and others. Mrs. Acevedo instilled in her children the importance of faith and family. She was a warm and caring Grandmother who cherished her time with all her grandchildren. She loved music, flowers, angels and was a wonderful dancer. Mrs. Acevedo was preceded in death by her father, Antonio Cavazos; her mother, Lilia Lugo Cavazos; her parents-in-law, Carlos Acevedo and Tomasita Guerra Acevedo, her sister and brother-in-law, Irma Novoa and Mario Novoa, brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlos and Hortencia Ochoa, Homero and Ruth Acevedo (Colorado), and Rodolfo Leos (San Antonio). She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Horacio Carlos Acevedo, Sr.; her six children, Horacio C. (Nora) Acevedo Jr., Cynthia Dovalina (San Antonio), Lily Gates (San Antonio), Sandra (Robert) Herzik (San Antonio), Xavier Acevedo, and David (Lamar) Acevedo. She is also survived by her seventeen grandchildren who brought her such joy and pride in their accomplishments; Nora Elia (Ramon) Perales, Clarissa (Gerardo) Garcia, Horacio C. (Melissa) Acevedo "Guero"; Maribel Acevedo; Lizette (Macario) Diaz (San Antonio), Melissa (Danny) Dovalina (San Antonio), Crystal (Matthew) Daniels (San Antonio), Edward (Brittany) Gates (San Antonio), Dr. Michael Herzik (San Antonio), Matthew Herzik (San Antonio), Alexandra Acevedo, Carlos X. Acevedo, Denise Acevedo, Diana Acevedo (San Antonio), Deborah Acevedo (San Antonio), Vanessa Villarreal and Kathryn D. Villarreal. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her sister and brother: Mrs. Amparo Leos (San Antonio) and Dr. Antonio Cavazos (San Antonio), half-brothers: Juan Antonio (Anita) Cavazos (San Antonio) and Ricardo (Lupita) Cavazos (San Antonio); plus cousins, many nieces and nephews and long-life friends. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Laredo Medical Center, Laredo Specialty Hospital and Altus Hospice who cared for mom during her illness, along with her home care takers, Olga, Juanita, and Alma. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, June 26, 2015 in the chapel at Joe Jackson Heights, 719 Loring at Cortez from 5 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil being celebrated at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, beginning at 9 a.m. The funeral procession will depart the chapel at 8:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
